DRC ranked as third-best NGO worldwide

For the third year in a row, the Danish Refugee Council (DRC) has been recognized as the third best Non-Governmental Organization (NGO) in the world by independent watchdog group NGO Advisor. DRC has now been ranked in their top five NGOs globally for seven years running.

Every day, DRC works to empower refugees and the displaced to lead dignified lives, even though they have lost their homes. That hard work has once again been acknowledged by the Geneva-based NGO Advisor on their annual list of the Top 500 NGOs globally.

“We are very pleased that we are once again ranked in the absolute top among the world's organizations. We are proud that our humanitarian work is recognized for our efficient and innovative approach”, says Charlotte Slente, Secretary General of DRC.

DRC assists 5.7 million people every year

DRC is one of the world’s leading displacement organizations, with an annual turnover of over 400 million Euro and more than 9,000 employees in 40 countries across Europe, Asia, the Middle East, Africa and South America. We help displaced people with everything from life-saving assistance, protection, legal counselling and self-sufficiency. DRC has grown over the last decade, and in 2018 we assisted more than 5.7 million people.

“Unfortunately, one of the reasons behind our growth is that the number of displaced people is increasing. Right now, more than 70 million people are displaced, which is the highest number since World War II. But we are pleased that we can make a difference for many displaced through our efficient and innovative solutions. And we appreciate that our hard work is once again getting international recognition,” says Charlotte Slente.

DRC in the global top five since 2013

NGO Advisor began publishing its list of the world's best NGOs in 2012, ranking the top 500 organisations according to a holistic set of criteria, including impact, innovation, transparency, sustainability, and whether the organizations live up to their values. Since 2013, the Danish Refugee Council has been ranked among the world's five best.
