Encouraging refugees to become involved in their host community is not only beneficial to the refugees themselves, but also to the host country. When refugees have access to rights, such as the right to work or education, and are included in the everyday life of the host society, they can expand their social circles, learn new skills (such as the host country’s language), work, and, ultimately, be more self-sufficient and prepare themselves for accessing a durable solution (either through return, reintegration, or resettlement into a third country).
