What types of residence permits can refugees get?

Depending on the individual case, the Danish authorities may issue a residence permit as a refugee in accordance with 3 different provisions under Article 7 of the Danish Aliens Act.

  1. Asylum or convention status, because one meets the UN Convention on Refugees definition of a refugee. This is known as Article 7 section 1 status. 
  1. Subsidiary protection status, because there is a risk of torture or inhumane treatment in the home country. This is known as Article 7 section 2 status. 
  1. Temporary protection status, because the situation in the home country is characterized by arbitrary violence and assaults on civilians. This is known as Article 7 section 3 status.
